Who is Paulo Filipe?

Born in Toronto, Ontario, 23 year old Paulo Filipe has an indescribable passion within his soul for Portuguese Fado. The word “fado” literally means “fate” or “destiny” and this music is known as the heart of the Portuguese soul. It is often referred to as the “Portuguese Blues” and it is this classic genre that Paulo is dedicating his life to.

Paulo spent part of his childhood in the Azores where he then became more exposed to the Portuguese culture by participating in various folklore groups. His professional career began in 2006 when he participated in a well known Portuguese community project through Venus Creations known as “Amor de Artista”. Since then, things have been extremely successful for Paulo.

In 2006, Paulo appeared on the television show “Atlantida” in S. Miguel Azores and often Portuguese news programs in Toronto will show various performance clips from the venues that Paulo performs at. In addition, Paulo once again participated in the 2007 “Amor de Artista” which was an honour for Paulo to partake in considering it was this community project that assisted in unleashing this very young and talented singer last year.

Paulo has recorded a few fados and hopes to continue recording so that he could release his first album very soon. His objective is to continue doing what he loves best and he most definitely will touch the hearts of many people who share the same passion and love for fado as he does.
